Cellulose is a worker placement game for 1 to 5 players set inside a plant cell. Players take turns activating organelles that contribute to the function and health of the cell. Compete for limited access to water and other resources, carry out photosynthesis to produce carbohydrates, convert carbohydrates into ATP in the mitochondria, and release plant growth hormones to grow the plant’s roots and shoots, giving you better access to resources on future turns. Score points for building carbohydrates into the cell wall, contributing water to the central vacuole, and constructing cell components such as enzymes, starches, and protein storage vacuoles. This strategy game continues until the cell wall is completed, and the player with the most points is the winner. As players compete to collect water and carbon dioxide to create carbohydrates, water becomes more scarce and is harder to collect efficiently. This balancing act creates strong player interaction and simulates the importance of key resources in the cell.
• TWO ADDITIONAL SCENARIOS - After you’ve played the base game, change it up with the included Cactus and Mangrove scenarios. The Cactus makes water scarce and more valuable, while the Mangrove adds a unique underwater Plant Board that changes your income options.
