Biggs appears in the movie A New Hope He is Luke's childhood friend, along with a character played by Koo Stark. Luke's nickname appears to be 'Wormie'. Most of Bigg's scenes are cut from the 1977 (and 1997) versions of the film, only seen just prior to the battle of Yavin and then whilst in battle, in which he dies. His original scenes lend weight to Luke's feeling of isolation on Tatooine, as Biggs is slightly older and worldly, and has escaped from the small planet to better himself. Although he does not say it directly, he hints that he has been accepted into the rebel alliance. The above scene is often referred to as 'The Anchorhead Scene' and is the most famous deleted scene from Star Wars. Garrick Hagon, the actor who played Biggs Darklighter, has his own website and appears to be active on the convention circuit. He, along with many others, has lobbied for the missing Star Wars scenes to either be restored or included as extras on future DVD releases. During the battle for Yavin, Biggs fought along with Luke and the rest of the rebels, piloting his own X-wing. He held out long in the battle, but his X-wing was destroyed by Darth Vader while Biggs was covering Luke's approach to the Death Star's exhaust port.
